			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>After researching these sites, I&#8217;m definitely informed of what I should do.  I have learned that students need to be educated on how to site material that is put on the web.  Teachers and administrators should know the laws of using media, videos, music, reproduced material before using it. </p>
<p>All students should be aware of cyberbullying, ways to prevent it, and what to do if they feel the threat of cyberbullying.  Parents also should be educated on cyberbullying and realize that it should not be tolerated.  Students should not feel intimidated to report cyberbullying if it is happening to them.</p>
<p>Students should limit their communication online with people that they know and trust.  This would help in that they would not get connected with the wrong people.</p>
<p>Schools should have a discipline in action to protect students against cyberbullying and violations of internet usage.  Parents, students, and employees should know that improper use is not tolerated.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I really liked this article, but I am not sure about using this strategy in the classroom.  It would take a lot classroom mangement to make this work.  I would like for my class to eventually come to open ended disscussions about tasks at had and for me to be able to control them.  This strategy would take, on my part, a lot of planning and patience to make it work. </p>
<p>A previous class I assisted the teacher used a teddy bear for class discussions.  Only if the child was holding the teddy bear that they could speak.  This was for a 1st grade classroom.  This is a better strategy for a younger classroom.</p>

<p>I tested out some of the fraction games and wondered where were these when I was growing up?    Fraction Trace was easy to understand and perform.  This tool allowed the students to practice adding fractions and compare the size of fractions.  Equivalent Fractions was easy to use and the instructions were understandable.  The concept  of this tool was letting the students make equivalent fractions and compare them.  The Fraction Models was easy to use.  Students are able to see a model, the decimal, and percent equivalents of fractions. </p>
<p>I played with these games awhile.  I will use this site with my 4th grader at home when she starts studying fractions.  Being able to visualize what a fraction is and be able to compare them with other fractions.</p>
<p><strong>Fraction Videos</strong></p>
<p>Fraction Strips &#8211; I loved this video on how the teacher teaches fractions to 1st/2nd graders.  It was great that she introduced the concept with a piece of literature.  I agree with her that there are so many great pieces of literature that you could incorporate with most lessons.  Visualization was the key learning style here.  The students were able to see what a whole looked like compared to a half, a fourth, and an eighth.  This activity could be adjusted to meet the needs of other grade levels.  I will keep this activity in mind when I am teaching.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This article made me think about my own experience learning fractions.  My teachers did not teach me the meaning and concept of fractions.  We only copied what the teacher modeled on the chalkboard.  Yes, chalkboard – not whiteboard, smartboard, promethean board.  We only had to copy what the teacher did and how the teacher did it.  I could add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions.  Did understand what the answer meant, no.  When the test was given and we moved on to a different objective, fractions were no longer a thought in my mind.</p>
<p>I have some apprehension about teaching fractions and luckily 1<sup>st</sup> graders do not go into much on fractions.  This article had ways of making sense of fractions and ways for students to comprehend them.  I did learn a lot from Dr. Piel and using the cuisenaire rods to learn fractions.  If I am ever in a grade level that focuses more on fractions, I will definitely use them.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I really liked this article.  This article gave me some ideas to use with my daughter who is in 1st grade and my students.  Students need to be able to have an understanding of number sense.  We just started working on building 10 frames in my first grade class.  Now this is after we have already introduced addition and subtraction.  The students really had a hard time with the concept of the ten frame.  They did not have a complete understanding of addition and subtraction.  I can not understand why addition and subtraction was taught before the use of the ten frame.  The children need to have a the concept of number sense before adding and subtracting them.</p>

<p>When I was in school some years ago, we were told that &#8220;it just is&#8221;.  Teachers never explained or showed us why was math problems figured they way they were.  I had major math anxiety because I never could get the picture.  I really never understood math until I took ELED 5201 in college.  The use of manipulatives and posing problems to situations made math clearer to me.  I finally got the picture.  I believe in using manipulatives to help children understand math problems.  We have all types of learners that learn in different methods and finding the right one is up to the teacher.  I know that when I start teaching that math manipulatives will definitely be use in my classroom.</p>
